3-Week Morning Challenge:
‘Yoga essentials – explore the fundamental elements of yoga‘ with Anya
Apr 20-May 08, 2020
Studio Sonne; Sonnenallee 67
On Friday May 01, normal practice from 8.30-10.00.
This 3-week morning intensive course explores the essential elements of yoga in depth. It is open to everyone – whether you’re just starting, or you’ve practised for a while and are ready to give your practice a greater depth of meaning and understanding. The classes will include a full and well-rounded programme of physical practice, theory, philosophy and meditation. These 3 weeks will give you a valuable depth of knowledge as well as a brightness and confidence in your future yoga practice.
We will explore:
The historical background and underlying philosophy of Yoga
– A detailed breakdown of the sun salutations
– Alignment in the key asanas & suiting them comfortably to your own body
– The meaning behind the Sanskrit terms we often hear in class, e.g. Om, Namaste, Chakras, Nadis etc.
– Yogic breathing
– The purpose and practice of meditation
– Bringing clarity into everyday life in a practical, grounded (and enjoyable!) way
We will explore the ‘bigger picture’ of yoga – the fundamental underlying philosophy, an overview of the historical background, and an explanation of key concepts such as ‘seeing through the filter’ (avidya) and the purpose and practice of meditation. Physically, we will start to look at key alignment techniques and explore the breath, always taking into account how to move in a healthy way and how to adapt the poses to suit you.
Weeks 2 and 3
We continue to explore the major physical postures, moving towards creating a tailor-made personal home practice with support and guidance, and finally we delve beyond the physical ‘layer’ to explore the body’s energetics – nadis, chakras– and how they relate to our psychology, emotions and daily life. We will deepen our journey into meditation, deep listening and how our practice on the mat can merge powerfully with our daily life.
This morning practice is for anyone who wants to create a solid foundation of understanding of the ‘bigger picture’ of yoga, anyone who wants to ask questions and get answers, and anyone who wants to bring a greater depth and confidence into their future yoga practice.
