Padmasana or Lotus Pose is the archetypal yoga pose and can be seen as a symbol for the unfolding process of yoga itself.
Like no other asana, it gives a deep sense of calmness, rootedness and stability. It naturally brings the spine and chakras in effortless alignment, reverses the downward flow of energy and opens the heart – facilitating a state of inner silence. Ideal for the practice of pranayama and meditation, it can also be combined with other postures in the advanced asana practice.
In this 10-week course, we will focus on building flexibility but also strength and stability in the ankle, knee, and hip joints, starting with basic practices and progressing towards more challenging ones.
Padmasana is an advanced pose and should be practiced carefully to avoid injuries. The classes will include some theoretical content that will help to highlight the elements of risk and keep the practice safe. The course is not suited for yogis with knee problems.
Theory
– Ankle, knee, hip: joint structure and relevant muscle groups.
– Anatomical patterns in hip openers.
Practice
– Exercises and asanas to structurally balance ankles and knees.
– Exercises and asanas for flexible and juicy hips.
– Self-massage and self-care practices for the lower limbs.
– The art of sitting: elements of rooting and growth in seated postures.
– Half Lotus and modifications.
– Lotus and modifications.
– Half Lotus and Lotus in the advanced asana practice.
– Pranayama and meditation in Half Lotus and Lotus.
Amanda has been practicing yoga since her childhood, growing up as she did with two yoga teachers for her parents. As a teacher, she has been trained by her father, the founder of the Pranayoga Method, a practice of teaching developed with respect of the tradition of Hatha Yoga which aims to improve the flux and purification of Prana. Over the years, various additional courses have supported her in the exploration of the theoretical aspects of the practice.
Amanda studies, practices and teaches the whole spectrum of the sacred path of yoga and believes in a holistic and creative approach to it. She is responsible for the 2-year Yoga Teacher Training Course of the Free School of Hatha Yoga Hamsa in Berlin.
